Why PR Is Dark Yet Beautiful

I wouldn't argue with you if you charged PR for its manipulation 'cause it is. But I would tell you the necessity and beauty of it.

There are millions of things in the world; only a few can be chosen. That’s why PR is necessary. If you don’t take a conscious effort pushing your agenda forward, you're most likely to end up nowhere in the world this noisy. You have to at least let people know you before they choose you, right?

It's true that PR people would work for their clients' interests, but that doesn't mean they don't tell the truth. Actually, the only way PR people can achieve their goal is by telling the truth, the untold one.

But here is the irony: there is no single truth in the world. So you'd charge PR for spinning because they don't tell the whole story, but what's the whole story? Is it even possible to tell? Everything could change. Sometimes, there are just pros and cons, left and right, yes and no. So you take a side and defend. That's it. People are inherently opinionated, and they need a thing to love, or hate.

The real beauty about PR is that you have a higher chance bringing what you believe to inspire more people. Don’t you remember the day you waked up seeing Nike’s “Just Do It” and found yourself recharged right away? And isn't it cool to craft message like that and have more people motivated? Brand messages aren't just words; they are bonds that bring people together.

PR also brings more diversity. We are born into some groups and established beliefs, neither all by our choices, nor all necessarily right. But most of the time, the fear of loneliness has grasped us, and we don’t dare to speak our mind unless we hear another voice sympathizing with our own. PR amplifies that voice, leads people to form a new group, and fights the urge to suppress minority or dissentient points of view. A true progress on civilization.
